How does VAT Refund work?

  • You can get VAT Refund with 3 easy steps. 1. Spend at least 2,000 Baht at the stores displaying VAT Refund for Tourists sign, ask for P.P.10 Form or e-P.P.10 with original Tax invoices. 2. On your departure date, declare your purchased goods, P.P.10 Forms or e-P.P.10 and original Tax invoices at the Customs Office to get inspection stamps before loading your luggage. 3. After Immigration, submit P.P.10 Forms or e-P.P.10 and original Tax invoices at VAT Refund Office. For more information and conditions, please visit our website.

What are LUXURY GOODS?

  • Luxury Goods are jewelry, gold ornament, watch, glasses, pen, mobile or smart phone, laptop or tablet, handbag, belt, which value of 40,000 Baht or more per item. Carry-on goods are goods which value of 100,000 Baht or more per item, for example; keychain, hair accessory, pin and brooch, cufflink, shoes, sneaker, jacket, wallet, purse, scarf, etc.

How can I claim VAT Refund for Luxury Goods?

  • Tourists who purchased the luxury goods have to declare them twice. First, at the Customs Inspection Office, before checking in and loading your luggage. Second, at the VAT Refund for Tourists Office, after passing Immigration. Therefore, tourists have to hand-carry the luxury goods with themselves for re-inspection. For goods that are too large to carry on board, present luggage tags and photos to show our officers.

I have bought iPhone and received the Refund Form a month ago. Can I claim VAT Refund?

  • You are eligible to claim VAT Refund if you take the goods out of Thailand from the International Airports within 60 days of purchase date. Make sure to declare and have the Forms stamped by the Customs. However, iPhone is one of Luxury Goods, please carry and declare once again at VAT Refund for Tourists Office.

I have bought an engagement ring for my girlfriend and I have a Refund Form. Next week, I will leave Thailand for a few days without her. Can I get VAT Refund on my purchasing?

  • When you leave Thailand and your passport has been stamped by Thailand Immigration, your trip will be considered as completed, even though if you come back in a few days. We consider it as trip by trip. Therefore, on your departure date, make sure to declare your purchased good at the Customs Office to get inspection stamps and at VAT Refund Office as it is a luxury good.

Can I claim VAT Refund on hotels and restaurant bills?

  • Hotels and restaurants are a type of services. You cannot claim VAT Refund on services or goods that you consume during staying in Thailand.

I have been working and residing in Thailand, can I claim VAT Refund?

  • Refunds will not be granted if you reside in Thailand or your stay exceeds 180 days.

If I depart from Thailand by car crossing land border, where can I claim VAT Refund?

  • VAT Refund for Tourists is available for travelers who depart Thailand by airplanes only. Our offices are in 10 international airports as follow; Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hat Yai, U-Tapao, Krabi, Samui, Surat Thani, and Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai. If you leave Thailand by other border crossings, you will miss a chance to claim VAT Refund.

I didn’t claim a refund at the airport. What should I do?

  • You can request your VAT Refund by mailing the following documents to VAT Refund for Tourists Office. Address shown on the back of the Form. 1. VAT Refund Forms (P.P.10 or e-P.P.10) and original Tax invoices, which have been stamped by the Customs. In case the total value of your purchase (summary of all forms) is less than 5,000 Baht, you would be exempted from Customs procedure. If you have luxury goods, the Forms must be stamped from the Customs and the Revenues. 2. A photocopy of your passport showing your photo, name and passport number. 3. A photocopy of your passport showing the arrival and departure dates stamped by Thailand Immigration. 4. A photocopy of your credit card (only Visa, MasterCard, Diners or JCB) showing your name, account number and expiry date (should valid more than three months). The name of the claimant and the credit cardholder must be exactly the same. For more information and conditions, please visit our website.

If I forgot to get VAT Refund forms stamped by the Customs, can I claim by mailing them to VAT Refund Office?

  • If you forget to get Refund forms stamped by the Customs, you cannot claim VAT Refund. However, if the total value of your purchases is less than 20,000 Baht per receipt, you would be exempted from Customs procedure. In this case you can directly mail them to us.

There is a long line at VAT Refund Office and I don't have enough time. Are there any other ways to claim VAT Refund?

  • If you forget to get Refund forms stamped by the Customs, you cannot claim VAT Refund. However, if the total value of your purchases is less than 20,000 Baht per receipt, you would be exempted from Customs procedure. In this case you can directly mail them to us.

What should I do if VAT Refund Forms or Tax invoices show the wrong name?

  • After purchasing, the retailer will give you the refund documents. Please check the forms thoroughly, if they are issued in different names or passport numbers, your refunds are very likely to be rejected.

My flight is on June 04, 2020 at 3 a.m. and I am willing to reach the airport on June 03, at 10 p.m. Can I have my Forms stamped by the Customs that night?

  • Tourists have to declare purchased goods, P.P10 Forms or e-P.P.10 and original Tax invoices to get inspection stamps exactly on the departure date. Customs Inspection Procedure should not be done in advance. Therefore, you should wait a couple hours.

While staying in Chiang Mai, I have purchased some clothes. Does VAT Refund need to be claimed in Chiang Mai International Airport?

  • If you have an international flight depart directly from Chiang Mai, VAT Refund should be claimed there. However, VAT Refund could not be claimed if you have a ticket for domestic flight.

I would like to buy a notebook computer in Thailand, are there any computer shops that joined VAT Refund for Tourists Scheme?

  • After purchasing, the retailer will give you the refund documents. Please check the forms thoroughly, if they are issued in different names or passport numbers, your refunds are very likely to be rejected.

Is refund given in USD or CNY?

  • If the refund amount does not exceed 30,000 Baht, the payment will be paid in cash (Thai Baht) and in e-wallet account (Alipay, Wechat pay) If the refund amount exceeds 30,000 Baht, the payment will be paid only in credit card account. (only Visa, MasterCard, Diners or JCB)

I have a domicile in Thailand. Can I claim VAT refund?

  •  If you have a domicile in Thailand, you cannot claim VAT refund because, according to the law, tourists shall not have a domicile in Thailand, which includes:

    - Having no habitual occupation in Thailand
    - There is no name in house registration or central house registration in Thailand
    - There are no places where husband and wife cohabit as a couple in Thailand
    This will be included in considering the type of visa.
